چکیده

With the rapid advancements in positioning technologies such as the Global Positioning System (GPS) and wireless communications, the tracking of continuously moving objects has become more convenient. However, this development poses new challenges to database technology since maintaining up-to-date information regarding the location of moving objects incurs an enormous amount of updates. Existing indexes can no longer keep up with the high update rate while providing speedy retrieval at the same time. This study aims to improve k nearest neighbor (kNN) query performance while reducing update costs. Our approach is based on an important observation that queries usually occur around certain places or spatial landmarks of interest, called reference points. We propose the ReferencePoint-based tree (RP-tree), which is a two-layer index structure that indexes moving objects according to reference points. Experimental results show that the RP-tree achieves significant improvement over the TPR-tree.

Approximate Continuous K Nearest Neighbor Queries for Continuous Moving Objects with Pre-defined Paths

Continuous K nearest neighbor queries (C-KNN) on moving objects retrieve the K nearest neighbors of all points along a query trajectory. In existing methods, the cost of retrieving the exact C-KNN data set is expensive, particularly in highly dynamic spatio-temporal applications. The cost includes the location updates of the moving objects when the velocities change over time and the number of ...

Optimized algorithms for predictive range and KNN queries on moving objects

There have been many studies on management of moving objects recently. Most of them try to optimize the performance of predictive window queries. However, not much attention is paid to two other important query types: the predictive range query and the predictive k nearest neighbor query. In this article, we focus on these two types of queries. The novelty of our work mainly lies in the introdu...

Approximating High-Dimensional Range Queries with kNN Indexing Techniques

While k-nearest neighbor queries are becoming increasingly common due to mobile and geospatial applications, orthogonal range queries in high-dimensional data are extremely important in scientific and web-based applications. For efficient querying, data is typically stored in an index optimized for either kNN or range queries. This can be problematic when data is optimized for kNN retrieval and...

DSTTMOD: A Discrete Spatio-Temporal Trajectory Based Moving Object Database System

In this paper, a new moving objects database model Discrete Spatio-Temporal Trajectory Based Moving Objects Database (DSTTMOD) model, is put forward. Trajectories are used to represent dynamic attributes of moving objects, including the past, current, and future location information. Moving objects can submit moving plans of different length according to their moving patterns. Moreover, they ca...

Alternative Solutions for Continuous K Nearest Neighbor Queries in Spatial Network Databases

Continuous K nearest neighbor queries (C-KNN) are defined as finding the nearest points of interest along an entire path (e.g., finding the three nearest gas stations to a moving car on any point of a pre-specified path). The result of this type of query is a set of intervals (or split points) and their corresponding KNNs, such that the KNNs of all points within each interval are the same. The ...
